Ten layers of hand-cut craft paper
Many of Pierre Fouché’s works explore the possibilities of creating images that appear photo-realistic through diverse and frequently unconventional means. These include lace, arrangements of dice, graphite on graphing paper, and cotton on linen. In Holiday with Swedish Radio, Fouché achieves a striking degree of realism by stacking ten different layers of hand-cut craft paper. As is typical of the images that he favours – drawn from his own and others’ photographs – there is a strong sense of quiet introspection and intimacy. What is important is the impression of connection: at some point, that moment was significant enough to someone that they chose to document it.
