Studio Happening emerged from a collaboration between Jody Paulsen and photographer Nico Krijno, who is known for his performance-based photographic practice. The work is a synthesis of both of their areas of inquiry, combining Paulsen’s vivid felt pieces and fashion design with Krijno’s interest in blurring the boundaries of what we perceive as a photograph. There is a sense of exuberance and energy to the resulting image, the model wearing Paulsen’s leopard print suit playfully vanishes into the corresponding felt sheet. Studio Happening is a reminder that art can be lively, spontaneous, and vital.
