We sat down with Art Director, Ali Bester for a little Q&A session on all things her, proud career moments and weird lunch time combos. Ali plays an integral part across numerous accounts including Astron Energy, and recently received a Bronze Loerie Award in the radio category.

Q: WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF IN YOUR CAREER SO FAR?

A: I would say our latest Gun Free South Africa print ad that we did which got flighted after being entered into the Financial Mail Creative Competition. It’s a really simple execution and has a really powerful but hard-hitting message. And it used AI but in a different way other than creating images.

Q: WHAT IS ONE THING THAT PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU?

A: I once cut my hair into a bob with a fringe and bleached it blonde with R8 hair dye.

Q: 2 TRUTHS 1 LIE?

A: I went to an Afrikaans high school for grade 1; I taught English to the Thai Mafia; I have a Labrador turning 13 this year.

Q: FAVOURITE BOOK OF ALL TIME?

A: My favourite book I’ve read is probably Sharp Objects by Gillilan Flynn.

‍Q: WEIRD LUNCH TIME COMBO YOU LIKE?

A: I feel like I eat a pretty normal lunch, but I do like broccoli and boiled eggs for breakfast.

Q: WHAT’S YOUR THEME SONG?

A: At the moment it’s Feel by Davido.

Q: IF YOU COULD BE ANY PIECE OF CLOTHING ITEM, WHAT WOULD YOU BE AND WHY?

A: Yoh I would pick a jacket. I love a jacket. It keeps you warm, but it’s also another layer to the outfit. So, you can be one look and then take it off and you have a whole other look.

Q: WHICH ONE OF OUR VALUES RESONATE WITH YOU THE MOST AND WHY?

A: OPTIMISTIC. Maybe I verge on too positive, but I really like to see why things are better than worse. I’m about how things can work and how to turn problems into something that works for me.
