ECONYL® regenerated nylon is a breakthrough material made from plastic waste. That's why Sealand, a local brand that upcycles waste into functional gear, uses it in their products. The more ECONYL® items they sell, the more trash is diverted from our mountains, rivers and oceans.
In September 2023, just after the biggest storm in 200 years broke along the coast of Cape Town, we used fake news to send a very real message.
Together with renowned artist Heath Nash, we wove a one-of-a-kind pool cover made from plastic waste washed up on SAs beaches. From kiddies paddle pools to toothbrushes, slip-slops, packets, welding masks and more, every piece a reminder that the waste problem doesn't end at your front door. We brought the cover to the Cape coast's most iconic pools, and shared edited photos of them blanketed in trash.
